Description
Gentiana lutea, Gentianaceae family.
Also known as the great yellow gentian, this plant is a species of gentian native to the mountains of central and southern Europe
This large perennial mountain plant with star-shaped yellow flowers grouped together on a stem of 1 meter or more adds bitterness to many renowned alcohols. It contains bitter glucosides, flavonoids, secoiridoids and alkaloids. The roots are traditionally used to stimulate appetite and digestion, to reduce diarrhoea and vomiting, or as an anthelmintic, tonic, antiseptic and anti inflammatory (joint pains, ears nose and throat infections).

Preparation
add 2 g (1 pinch) per cup of boiling water and infuse for15 min. Drink 1 cup after each meal. You can also macerate for 12 hours, in which case add 30 g for 1 litre of water and do not exceed 3 cups per day.
Properties and beneficial combinations
- in herbal teas: add 5 g (1 pinch) of Verbena or Peppermint per cup. Drink 1 cup after each meal.
- flavour: if you enjoy the bitterness of Gentian, add a Hibiscus flower and a pinch of Lemongrass leaves to your infusion for a very fragrant drink.
Contraindications
Do not use in cases of high blood pressure, pregnancy or breastfeeding, ulcers and duodenal or oesophagus cancers.
