Organic HIBISCUS Infusion
Description
Hibiscus sabdariffa, Malvaceae family.
An annual or perennial herb or woody-based subshrub native to tropical regions, used as an infusion, in which it may be known as Carcade.
It has white flowers with a red heart that is harvested when it fruits which explains its the strong red colour of the infusion and its acidulous and fruity taste. This infusion, known as Karkadé or Bissap in Africa, is traditionally used as a diuretic or as a mild laxative and has protective properties (cardiovascular, hypotensive). It stimulates appetite and soothes spasms as well as having an anti-inflammatory and mucolytic effect on the respiratory tract.
The flowers contain fruit acids, mucilages, anthocyanosides.
