Description
Matricaria recutita. Asteraceae family
Also known as German Chamomile, Matricaria, Wild Chamomile.
The hollow heads of this annual plant resemble small daisies with an aromatic fragrance. Harvested at the beginning of the summer and quickly dried in the shade they preserve all of their qualities. the Matricaria is traditionally used as an appetite stimulant as well as to aid digestion and avoid bloating, soothe eye irritations or migraines and facilitate menstruation. With its sweet, aromatic and flowery flavour, it is pleasant both before or after a meal.
Other chamomiles have similar properties. They are less bitter but also less effective.

Preparation
5 flowers per cup, brew for 10 min. 3 cups a day at meal-time or any other time of the day.
Properties and beneficial combinations
- soothing flower tea: add 5 g (one tablespoon) of lavender flowers to an infusion of 3 Matricaria flowers. Drink 1 cup at night-time. You may also prepare a more concentrated infusion to add to your bath.
- aids digestion: infuse for 10 min with 3 stars of Star Anise, drink after meals or in cases of intestinal spasms.
Topical application
A light decoction (3 flowers) can be used in case of eye irritation (compresses) or mouth sores, as well as on cuts, abrasions or sunburn.
Cosmetics
Rinsing lotion for blond hair.
Softening lotion for hands, decoction in milk.
